Be You

How great is the personal responsibility that each of us have to stand as witnesses of Jesus Christ at all times, in all things, and in all places?  Very great indeed!  The pressure from the world to give in and become acquainted with sin and disobedience is very powerful and difficult to overcome.  However, the power of knowing that you are a unique son, or daughter, of a Heavenly King is more powerful than any of those other vices.  Knowing this about yourself, teaches you that you have much to offer to the people around you.
Jesus, the Redeemer of the world, has likened, or metaphorically applied, us to light on a candlestick: he says, "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."  It is a choice to "let your light shine".  You choose how bright, or how dim your light is.  The stronger your faith is, the brighter your light will be in the darkness around you.
"You are also responsible for developing the abilities and talents Heavenly Father has given you. You are accountable to Him for what you do with your abilities and how you spend your time. Do not idle away your time. Be willing to work hard. Choose to do many good things of your own free will."a
One of the most important things that you can do is to grow and develop yourself wherever you live.  You must be willing and quick to teach and testify to others of the reality of who you are.  Even if the world around you appears dead and lacking in moral stability, do not give in!  The world truly needs your light and example.   Heavenly Father needs you to stand and be firm, even when others around you are giving in, or giving up.
Pray for strength to be firm in your standards and in teaching others how they can do the same.  Jesus Christ teaches us to "look unto [Him] in every thought; doubt not, fear not."b  As you look to Him and rely on His power and knowledge to do all things, you will become a light and a wonder to the world.  You will find joy in every day as you live the life you promised to live when you were baptized in His name.d  As you do this, "you shall in nowise lose your reward".
